It is my absolute pleasure to introduce you all to a new author – Miranda A. Uyeh. Some of you may have already heard of her, as she is part of the wordpress family, however for most of you, this is your first time. Well, can I just say that she is one very gifted and talented author! She writes as if she has written for years, and I cannot believe that this is only her first book. But I am pleased to say that it definitely won’t be her last! So, before I get started with my review, let me introduce you all to Miranda:
Miranda A. Uyeh is an assistant lecturer at a local college in Makurdi City, Nigeria, where she teaches two geology courses. Her love for books goes as far back as when her father placed Disney’s Rapunzel in her hands—her very first storybook! By the time she was thirteen she knew she was going to be a writer. You can find Miranda on her blog where she shares her love for books, entertainment and Christian spirituality with her readers. Miranda holds a B.Tech (Hons) in Applied Geology from ATBU, Nigeria. To Die Once is her debut novel, #1 of the Child of Grace book series.
Make sure to follow her online one way or another!!
And, because I thought it would be fun (and it was 🙂 ) I also have an interview to share with you all…….
1. Getting your first book published must have had its challenges and I believe it was a
long process in the making. What sort of hurdles did you have to overcome?
I live outside the United States, but the rest of my team lives there. So when we first began, establishing a payment option that was comfortable for everyone proved a bit difficult. But eventually, we settled on using Google Wallet, desktop version, a very easy and comfortable option! Other authors have complained about problems they’ve had with their editors, but I’m happy to announce this wasn’t the case at all, as Amber Stokes and Rachelle Rea are friends of mine. Some authors aren’t pleased with the final product from their cover designer, but Lena Goldfinch—very talented, patient and professional—surpassed all my expectations. She, too, is a friend!
2. What inspired you to become a writer?
I remember that the first Christian romance I ever read, a Heartsong book by Norma Jean Lutz, first caught my attention when I was thirteen. I was so blown away that I penned her a letter which she sweetly replied. Nothing made me more excited at the time! I knew, then, that I wanted to be a writer. After a while, as I grew up, I forgot about Christian Fiction, but not my zeal to write, because I’d delved deeper into mainstream. But somewhere along the line, God took me through a journey that reminded me again of who I’m supposed to be. I wrote a blog post about it which I titled “Why I Believe In Christian Fiction”.
3. How long did it take for you to write To Die Once and what inspired you to write it?
I started writing To Die Once November, 2012, and I finished it some four to five months after? Being an avid reader of books and viewer of movies, I guess they all came together to form a plan in my head. Haha!
4. What are 5 interesting facts about yourself?
Hmm … well, the word “interesting” is relative, right? Haha! I think these add color to my personality:
i. I’m a child of the Most High God, and I don’t take that for granted!
ii. I love chocolate and roses. Red Roses please!
iii. I think Paris and Barbados are beautiful and I hope to visit these places one day.
iv. I’m looking forward to owning my own pet dog that I’ve already named Aspen.
v. Taking time to be by myself so I can reflect and meditate is the best way I can rightly put things into focus and draw inner strength from God.
5. Which do you like more:
Hot chocolate/Mocha/Coffee – Mocha! Although, sometimes, I prefer the separate flavors of coffee and chocolate. Tea, however, is at the top of my list.
Shopping/Beach/Watching movies – Movies please!
Pink/Green/Orange – Can I pick red or blue instead? Haha!
Lollies/Fruit/Biscuits – Fruit please. Unless there’s cake!
Flats/Heels/Boots – Without blinking, boots! I dig those.
Rabbits/Birds/Other – Dogs/Horses. Love their loyalty!
6. What is your worst fear?
The ocean. It is way too vast. Although, I have to admit, the view is quite grand from the beach.
7. Whilst writing To Die Once did you have any actors in mind who would be perfect character portrayals?
Not really. The characters’ looks in my head were very original. It’s why it took Lena and I a good bit of time to find the model I felt would exude Jennifer’s personality on the cover. And I can tell you, the one there fits PERFECTLY! I seriously doubt any other photo out there could have given better face value, and I thank God for this, because, I’d put it all in His hands before and during the search.
8. What is your favourite music/artist/album/song?
Music Genre: Christian Rock; Artist: Casting Crowns (in a classic sort of way); Album: Overcomer (Deluxe edition), by Mandisa; Song: You See Through Me, by Chris Taylor.
9. Do you have a favourite movie?
I have no favorite movie, but I have a list of favorites.
10. If you could do anything you wanted, what would you do?
Own a publishing/movie production company.
11. Did you always want to become a writer? What other professions interested you?
Yes! I made the decision to become a writer when I was thirteen. A few of the crazy times, I dared to imagine what it would be like to be an aerospace engineer or marine biologist. Haha! In less crazy times, I wondered about architecture.
12. What are your favourite TV shows?
I recently haven’t paid as much attention to TV shows as I used to. But overall, I believe the best ever to grace the TV were 24 (the best ever!), Nikita, Chuck, Suits, White Collar, House and Modern Family (that’s not to say I approve of the crazy in them!).
13. Do you have a favourite bible verse?
I have a variety of verses that God has used to bless me, and they’re such pillars for me: Heb. 4:16; Phil. 4:13; Is 40, 49, 41:14-16, 30:21; John 10:10; Rom. 8:1; 1 Pet. 3:3-11; 1 John 4:4, 5:3-5, Prov. 3:5-8; 1Chro. 4:9-10; Ps 91, 121, 16, 37:1-11; Lk 10:19; James 3:13-18; 1 Cor. 13 … Oh, they’re so many!
14. Have you started planning writing your second book?
Oh, yes! To Die Once is #1 in the Child of Grace book series. I’ve started writing book #2, To Lie Once. This story centers on Jennifer’s sister, Joyce. It’s a “good girl gone bad” sort of story. I’m so excited writing it! There will be four books in all.
15. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Paris, first. Then Barbados!
