This is one of my favourite Christian movies of all time!! Not only is the acting great, but I found the message- life is beautiful – to be really uplifting. It also reflects the real story of Gianna Jessen, whose story I will post tomorrow.
As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah-unscripted-collapses in front of the stunned audience. After countless medical tests, it is revealed that the cause links back to her premature birth’s underlying factor: abortion. Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for her unknown future. In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah learns that every life is beautiful.
What I loved most was the reminder of God’s unconditional love and acceptance that we are to pass on to other people, no matter what they have been through. This is especially evident in relation to Hannah because people judge her to be some goody two-shoes Christian, not looking at the person God made her to be. I am thankful for this reminder because it is something I do nearly all the time, mostly unconsciously.
October Baby is also a story about forgiveness and understanding about this touchy subject – abortion-, where it definitely does not label the act as “evil”.
Wherever you stand on this issue, I strongly encourage you to watch this movie. I for one am against abortion, however I still felt a strong connection and sympathy towards the issue, on both sides of the coin. This is a Christian movie unlike all the others because it can easily be passed off as a normal box office film. So watch the movie and be encouraged and enlightened!! “The truth will set you free”.
